I’m Ben!
Founder/CEO
I always knew I enjoyed CREATING. I grew up constructing acrobatic routines with my childhood friend in her front yard whenever I had the opportunity. Those moments were propelled by the introduction to Gymnastics. Gymnastics led me to Dance, which then led me to Cheerleading. Cheerleading has now become my LIFE. Without those almost subconscious moments, I would not be where I am today. Everything happens for a reason… And this is MY REASON!
I have been a freelance choreographer since the age of 18, traveling both domestically and internationally creating moments for Cheerleading & Dance programs throughout both of our journeys, but my journey didn’t start there. At the early age of 7, I began mine by enrolling into a competitive Acro-Gymnastics/Dance Academy, Tumbling with Spirit (currently Art of Gymnastics and Cheer) alongside Jersey Cape Dance and Gymnastics Academy. I competed with both companies collectively for 6 years, and was awarded numerous titles and accolades throughout my athletic career.
My training in Acro-Gymnastics, Dance (Ballet, Tap, Pom, Jazz, Modern, etc.), as well as all 7 levels of All Star Cheerleading has given me insight into many aspects of our industry. Leading up to those learned skills, I was cast in "The Wizard of Oz" on Broadway, performed at Madison Square Garden in New York City at the age of 10. Two years later, I was given the opportunity to star in "The Radio City Christmas Spectacular" on tour in Myrtle Beach, SC, performed at the Palace Theatre, and appear in the "Rack Room Shoes" Commercial/Ad Campaign.
Fast forward a few years, I am now assistant coaching and competing with a local recreational competitive cheer team, Cheer Express, along with Cape Christian Academy's high school competitive and basketball cheer teams, forging ahead from my middle school competitive and basketball cheer roots. Once All Star Cheerleading came a-knocking at my door half way through my high school career, I began competing with a third program, South Jersey Storm All Stars located in Williamstown, NJ (at the time). That experience flourished for four consecutive years, where I competed on the Large Coed and Open Coed 5/6 teams and coached many of the program’s competitive cheer teams while also continuing to assistant coach and cheer for the recreational and high school competitive cheer teams.
After those four years (including two full years of college in New Jersey at both Rider and Rowan University studying Business Administration in addition to Health and Exercise Science with a specialization in Health Promotion and Fitness Management), I decided to relocate to South Florida to start the next chapter of my life. I attended the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, where I committed the next 2 years of my college career challenging my creativity while studying Fashion Design. Just prior to graduating with a Fashion degree in 2009, I submitted my designs to compete in Miami Fashion Week's "Student Designer of the Year" competition held once a year in the Fashion District of Miami amongst some of the most renowned Fashion Designers from around the world. To my surprise, I was chosen as 1 of 5 student designers from around the United States to battle it out on the Miami Fashion Week runway. After taking part in all aspects of a fashion show and the details that materialize behind the scenes, I was named Miami Fashion Week's 2009 "Student Designer of the Year", paving my way into the world of FASHION!
My plans to no longer physically compete as an All Star Cheer athlete upon relocating to South Florida were quickly rearranged after befriending several Top Gun Miami staff members through mutual industry friends, and let’s just say, THAT WAS THAT! I began cheering at Top Gun All Stars Miami in 2007, training and competing with their International Open Coed 5 team (i5). Shortly after, I also began training with the Top Gun Team Performance dance team. My career as an athlete at Top Gun All Stars thrived from 2007-2011, receiving many awards and titles at Regional, National, and World Championships around the U.S., including 2 Gold and 2 Bronze World Championship titles, along with a Grand Championship title with Top Gun All Stars at the USASF Cheerleading World Championships held in Orlando, FL. Through this experience, I became a member of Team USA, an instructional cheerleading skills camp company under the direction of Noe Mendiola of El Paso, TX in 2011-2012. Most recently, I was awarded the 2019 Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF) "International Cheer Choreographer of the Year" Award for both my continued involvement and significant influence on the Australian Cheerleading community.
Everything I have gone through up to this point has transformed me into the Ben Lear I am today… I have had the opportunity to not only choreograph for some of the world’s most talented programs, coaches, and athletes, but also compete alongside them. The relationships I have built throughout the past 25 years have shaped the game for me, opening my eyes to all the magic these industries encompass. I AM GRATEFUL for the support, trust, and guidance shown to me by so many individuals. I AM THANKFUL for every single opportunity I have been given over the course of my professional career. I AM HONORED to be recognized, team and individually, for both Acro-Gymnastics/Dance and Cheerleading at many Regional, National, and World Championships around the globe. I AM WHO I AM thanks to so many.
The rest is HISTORY…
